Peonies do very well in my garden. The very first to bloom in the season is the bright red large flowered Paeonia officinalis 'Rubra Plena'. I have three of them. They are also the oldest of all my peonies, certainly more than 50 years old. The plant in full bloom looks really incredible, with more than 25 beautiful flowers.
Paeonies are really tough. Thank God, the recent frost and snow (in April!) did not harm them very much. They were laying on the ground then, but they raised and produced so many buds. They are pretty expensive plants, but worth all the money that is spent on them. If properly planted and cared for, they will live for 100 years or more.
The peony care usually includes some support and giving them the fertiliser at the beginning of the season. Regular watering is beneficial.
Peony 'Pink Hawaiian Coral' is and a hybrid between P. peregrina and P. lactiflora. It opened the first flower yesterday. This beautiful coral colour slowly fades away as the flower matures.
